Snail as an EP name is unusual, but it fits Hamburg's slowest, The Next, perfectly. First of all, it takes years to bring The Next out of his shell to produce a tune or two (or in this case, four). Secondly, he's slow to warm to current production technology. Dude's probably on Cubase 1.0 still. Don't get us started on his propensity to utilize a dusty old MPC for beat production! While some producers are sweating over the transients in some kick/snare combo for a month, Good ol' Frank is just crossing his fingers that his MPC doesn't fail. OK, enough insulting our boy. What The Next can do, very few can: produce drum and bass tracks that are unique, innovative and full of funk, regardless of his dusty kit and love of floppy disk drives and DAT machines. His 4 tracks here are freaking fire, in a way that only The Next can do. Long Live The Snail!
